Fascinating presentation.  Tony comes across very similar in style to NY Times columnist Thomas Friedman.
Tony focuses on developing creativity and innovation, tying to parenting and experiences with teachers.

06-2012  Conference:  U.S. News STEM Solutions 2012 Leadership Summit
 Dallas, TX, June 27-29
This was the first-ever national conference devoted solely to the dangerous long-term decline America is experiencing in the interest in, education in, understanding of, and use of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) in our nation.  Over 1,000 participants came from education, business and STEM education-related non-profit organizations around the U.S. to discuss the current understanding of the status of America's current and future workforce, students and business and governmental leadership needs.  The ultimate goal of this inaugural event was to identify, develop and implement plans to provide solutions.

                 > Report: More Students Taking Science, Math
Bloomberg Business Week, 05/24/2012

More high school students are enrolling in math and science classes and seeking online learning opportunities.  The annual "Condition of Education" report said there has been a marked increase over the last two decades in the percent of high school graduates who had taken calculus, from 7 percent in 1990 to 16 percent in 2009.  Overall, the percentage enrolling in math and science courses increased in all subjects except algebra I, a class  many students now take in middle school.  Yet while more are enrolling, the report also states that scores have largely stagnated: Seventeen-year-old students performed neither significantly better nor worse on a national math and reading assessment than they did in the early 1970s. Results from the National Assessment of Educational Progress test in science found just 1 percent of high school seniors scored at the highest achievement level in 2009
