Adjustment Procedure - 10-pin Amplifiers
At your request we can install a miniature 15-turn potentiometer on the circuit board and drill an
access hole on the right side of the can. We cover the hole with a paper dot which is either green
or orange. This adjustment is for set point only, not for a surge or
irratic cruise behavior. This modification costs only an additional $25 if performed during initial
remanufacture and $30 if done subsequently.
The circuit has been pre-set at our facility.
If speed sets either high or low in your vehicle simply make adjustments using the
following procedure:
Notes:
- The amplifier does not require that the case be grounded. All grounds are through
the connector. Therefore the unit can be adjusted while hanging from the connector.
- It is sometimes desirable to have the module where it can be tuned while driving.
It is possible to build an extension cable to allow the amplifier to lay on the passenger
seat during calibration. We recommend using a 10-conductor, stranded wire, 22 AWG cable.
Molex 0.093" male and female pin terminals can be used. Each pin should be crimped and then
soldered. It is advisable to use shrink tubing over the soldered portion of the pins. The
entire cable can be three to five feet in length.
- Naturally, it is critical to assure proper pin connection at each end. Severe
damage to the amplifier is possible if pins are crossed.
- A preferred cable would use an original molded female connector and a male connector
fashioned from a discarded amplifier, both spliced to a cable of desired length. If the
cable is properly wired and buzzed out, this should avoid the possibility of improper
connection.
The following color code is recommended:
pin number - wire color
- 3 - orange
- 4 - yellow
- 5 - green
- 6 - blue
- 7 - violet
- 8 - grey
- 9 - white
- 10 - black
- 11 - brown
- 12 - red
Calibration Procedure:
We use 60 MPH for the sake of discussion; any speed above 25 MPH should work.
- Plug in cruise amplifier.
- Use Accel/Set to accelerate to 60 MPH.
- Release lever as vehicle passes through 60 MPH.
- Vehicle should return to and hold exactly 60 MPH.
- To increase set speed, rotate potentiometer clockwise; to decrease,
rotate counter-clockwise.
- Check "Off," "Decel/Set," "Brake," and "Resume" functions.
- Repeat steps 2 through 6 a couple times.
More Important Notes:
- If the amplifier is hard to reach, please... stop the vehicle in a
safe place before making the adjustment.
- If the amplifier is accessible (on an extension cable) the adjustment may be
made while driving and with the cruise system engaged.
- Important: there is enough adjustment in this potentiometer to take the
amplifier out of its working range. If this happens,
re-center the potentiometer and start over.
