Breast or Bottle?
<<One more thing that has been overlooked in the discussion of breastfeeding (and Parent-Controlled Feeding) is that breastfeeding has been looked on as just another "feeding" style - you know, "what'll it be, breast or bottle?">>
In response I'd like to share a quote someone sent me from a Christian midwife named Martha Breeden:
"Breastfeeding is God's design for our babies for nutrition and for their spiritual growth, laying that foundation of trust so they can learn love. When man comes in and says, 'but we've developed this formula that is almost as good as breastmilk and we can get it into the baby via this bottle', and then we all buy it as an acceptable way to feed a baby, what we have done is said, 'God, here's your plan over here but we've come up with this plan of our own and we like it better, so we're going to lay Your plan aside and we're going to choose this one.' That is what rebellion is, to choose your way over God's way...and so when we choose to bottlefeed our babies we have gone against God's will and plan for our lives and we are in rebellion against God."
Whew! Strong words, huh? Whether or not we agree, we have to admit it is rather thought-provoking and sobering.
