How We Muddled Through Writing Web Pages

Web Techs Validation Service
This site will test your HTML. We flunked. Actually, one of our early pages passed until we added "nifty" stuff to it. We gave up trying to fix our HTML and figured that, as long as our pages look halfway decent on Netscape, it's good enough for us.

Web Counter Page
Want to know how many "hits" your page gets? We were going to use this, but then we found that our provider already had a CGI script set up.

GIF Animation on the WWW
If our site ever starts looking really lively, this is why.

How we really muddled through writing web pages...

I got the book "Publishing on the World Wide Web" by Greg Holden and started reading and experimenting, bit by bit.
I downloaded an HTML editor from NaviSoft and played around with it, but discovered I preferred the laborious process of hand-coding HTML. Maybe someday I'll splurge on Adobe's PageMill...
If so, this page will come in handy:
Using PageMill to Create Web Pages

We visited lots of different pages, sometimes peeking to see how other people did things.

The Home Page Maker
This is one example of the growing number of sites that will help you create a web page. We ran into a few minor bugs with the page we tried.

The FIX_dot_HELP page!
Although the info on this page is specific to our Internet provider, some of it might be helpful to anyone trying to get a web page up and running.

Beginner's Guide to HTML

Web Developer's Virtual Library

We've just discovered PageSpinner 1.1, shareware available at the Macworld Online site. This is not a WYSIWYG HTML editor. Since I like working directly with HTML, I'm enjoying its many features. It is up-to-date with all the latest Netscape extensions, HTML 3.0, 3.2, etc.

We've been using Claris Home Page 2.0
We've decided that we no longer have the time and energy to spend laboriously hand-coding all the HTML, fun though it was.

Welcome to Seussville!
My husband does the best reading of "Green Eggs and Ham" that I've ever heard. I don't think you can have children and not develop a soft spot for Dr. Seuss. Besides, "Hop on Pop" was the first book I ever read all by myself.

The Lurker's Guide to Babylon 5
OK, so we have another vice (besides my coffee...and chocolate for all of us). My husband and I stay up late on Saturday night and watch this program on the one channel we are able to receive clearly. I know some people think Sci Fi is a tool of the devil. We view it as an exercise in discernment; there's no way to watch or read it without becoming aware of the writers' worldview. Proceed with caution.

We didn't know where to put this link. Frankly, I thought of putting it on every single one of our pages, listed under every single category. Charity has a very beautiful page with links to everything imaginable that is good and wholesome.
