"Watch over your heart with all diligence,
for from it flow the springs of life."
Proverbs 4:23

watch over your heart
He said
but mine is lost and battered
a cold and rocky fallen fortress
desperately in need of mending

watch over your heart
He said
but I didn't
I dragged it through the broken glass
and filled it full of ice
trampled it on dirty streets
and surrounded it with walls of stone
...until I wept for what I'd done

watch over your heart
He said
but misused and injured as it was
seemingly beyond repair
I brought it to Him with trembling hands
and left it in His care

watch over your heart
He said
so I did
watched Him remove each jagged sliver
and clean and mend each open wound
felt Him melt the icy fortress
turn deadened stone to living flesh
saw Him change my heart completely
and knew He filled it with Himself
