New Tears

so when my tears
flow in the darkness
I hope you'll understand
it's not despair
or desperate longing
or a soul that has no rest

it's sadly sweet
a salty healing
a purging of my heart
tears long overdue

so when my tears
flow in the sunlight
and glisten on my skin
it's not a dream
that's cruelly breaking
but sorrow turned to joy

it's sadly sweet
a salty healing
a purging of my heart
and tears long overdue

so when my tears
flow in your presence
I hope you'll understand
it's not your touch
I want for comfort
but the closeness of my Lord

it's sadly sweet
this salty healing
this purging of my heart
I wish I'd known it long ago
